Your Carson City Holiday Season Guide: Nevada Day to New Year’s 2026
From Nevada’s biggest parade to the Capitol tree lighting, late October through December is when Carson City feels most like a hometown. Whether you are new to town or have lived here for years, these annual traditions are a great way to celebrate the season.
Nevada Day Weekend
Nevada Day festivities fill downtown Carson City from October 30 through November 1. The main event, the Nevada Day Parade, begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, October 31, traveling south on Carson Street from William Street to Stewart Street. This year’s theme is “Pumpkins, Pioneers and Tall Tales.”
Expect floats, marching bands, equestrian groups, historic displays, community organizations, art cars, and plenty of Nevada pride. The parade generally lasts about four hours, so bring chairs, snacks, a warm drink, and layers for October weather.
Parking and road closures can make downtown busy. Consider parking a few blocks from the route and walking in; viewing spots farther south may be less crowded than the central downtown area.
The weekend also includes the Nevada Day Powwow, historic tours, a balloon launch, contests, markets, and post-parade activities.
Halloween Plans
Because Halloween and the Nevada Day Parade both fall on Saturday, Carson City will observe trick-or-treating on Friday, October 30. This adjustment helps avoid traffic and safety conflicts associated with the parade.
Families can also look for trunk-or-treats, neighborhood events, and the Carson City BOOnanza at Mills Park, scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. on October 30. The event brings local businesses and organizations together for candy, food trucks, and activities.
Holiday Craft Fairs
Holiday craft fairs offer an easy way to shop locally while supporting Northern Nevada artists, makers, and small businesses.
- Carson High School Holiday Craft Fair: November 13–14
- Carson Christmas Craft Fair: November 21, December 5, and December 12
- Location: Carson City Community Center, 851 E. William St.
With multiple shopping dates, these fairs are a useful option for finding distinctive gifts early—or returning later for the people still left on your list.
Thanksgiving Turkey Trots
Thanksgiving falls on Thursday, November 26. Two popular local events provide a family-friendly way to get outside before the holiday meal:
- Carson City Turkey Trot, near the Governor’s Mansion, typically offering 5K, 8K, and children’s race options
- Carson Valley Turkey Trot, at Minden Park, with a kids’ Turkey Dash and 5K run/walk
Check the organizers’ registration pages closer to the event for confirmed start times, routes, prices, and participation details.
Silver & Snowflakes
Carson City’s holiday season officially gets underway Friday, December 4, with the Silver & Snowflake Festival of Lights at the Nevada State Capitol Grounds. The event runs from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and includes fifth-grade caroling, the Capitol tree lighting, sleigh rides, Santa, the Grinch, live music, hot chocolate, and an outdoor vendor market.
Dress warmly, arrive early, and expect downtown traffic and street closures. It remains one of the city’s best nights to meet up with friends, family, and neighbors.
